About
About UK EU Ranked
UK EU Ranked places the United Kingdom alongside the 27 EU member states on economy and quality of life, and shows how the UK's position has moved since the 2016 referendum. It uses published data and published research only.
What the site is
The site has three parts. The rankings place all 28 countries on 21 metrics, with the method written out on the methodology page. The Since 2016page shows trends against 2015. The research library lists published studies of the effect of Brexit, each with its critiques beside it.
Every figure names its source, series code, vintage and fetch date. The raw downloads are on thedata page, with licences and attribution.
Neutrality
The site does not say whether the UK should rejoin the EU, stay out, or whether leaving was a good or bad outcome. It presents the figures, the method and the published estimates, with the criticisms of each set out beside it. Headlines describe what the figures show. Readers draw their own conclusions, and the site gives them the tools to compare.
No country is shown as a winner by default. The home page leads with the UK's rank and how that rank has moved, not with a judgement of it.
What this site can't tell you
- Trends show correlation, not causation. Covid, energy prices and policy changes overlap the same years, and these charts do not separate their effects.
- Non-economic factors that people weigh, such as sovereignty, regulatory autonomy and migration policy, are not measured here.
- Rejoining would not restore the terms of 2016. The euro, the UK rebate and the opt-outs would differ for a new member.
The methodology page lists the topics the site leaves out, and why.
