# UK EU Ranked

> Static, published-data comparison of the United Kingdom with the 27 EU member states (28 ranked countries, national level) on economy and quality of life, from 2000 to the latest year, and how the UK's position has moved since the June 2016 referendum. The site presents data and published research only. It does not say whether the UK would be better or worse placed inside the EU; it gives readers the figures and the tools to compare. ## Reading the figures
- Ranks use the latest common year per measure (at least 25 of 28 countries with a value). Older values are carried forward at most two years and flagged.
- Each measure is standardised as a z-score across the 28 countries, sign-flipped where lower is better and capped at plus or minus 3. Pillar and overall scores are means of those z-scores.
- Pillar scores show a completeness badge, because some countries have fewer measures available.
- Some measures cannot be captured by economic or quality-of-life data: sovereignty, regulatory autonomy and migration policy are outside the scope of the rankings.
